Weed Abatement

The City of El Monte Code Enforcement conducts monthly weed and waste inspections throughout the City. The purpose of these inspections is to ensure that property owners maintain their properties free of nuisances as required by the El Monte Municipal Code (EMMC). “Nuisance” means a condition of property that constitutes blight, a public health hazard, or a public safety hazard and is considered a violation of the City’s Municipal Code.
Municipal Code Requirements

All yards must be landscaped and maintained. Overgrown vegetation, dead, decayed or diseased trees, and unsightly weeds or lawns that detract from the appearance of the home and the neighborhood are not permitted. Such vegetation may harbor vermin. Property values also may be affected by the unsightliness of poor landscaped maintenance.

Landscaping shall be maintained in an orderly and healthy condition. This shall include proper pruning, staking, sowing of lawns, weeding, removal of litter, fertilizing, replacement of plants when necessary, and regular watering.
