Tree Preservation Ordinance
- Purpose: To protect the City's mature and heritage trees from unnecessary removal or harm.
- Requirements: The removal of ANY mature or heritage tree requires a no fee permit from the City. Please contact the Planning Division staff for further information.
- Completion Date: June of 2011
Urban Forestry Management Plan
- Funding Source: California Department of Forestry and Fire (Calfire)
- Purpose: To develop a comprehensive plan for the care, maintenance, and enhancement of the City's urban forest. The project will result in the adoption of an Urban Forestry Management Plan and will provide sustainable policies and recommendations for the public spaces and greenways within the City.
- Completion Date: June of 2011
Urban Forestry Education Center
- Funding Source: California Department of Forestry and Fire (Calfire)
- Purpose: To create a linear educational experience within the existing sidewalk along the entire length of Valley Boulevard. The project will result in the installation of twelve interactive demonstration stations and information kiosks and 100 new street trees.
- Completion Date: June of 2011
SCAQMD Tree Partnership
- Funding Source: South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD)
- Purpose: To establish a greenway along the entire length of Valley Boulevard and to provide employment opportunities within the field of sustainability to local high school and college students. The project will result in the installation of 240 new street trees and will provide over 3,000 hours of paid employment for local youth.
- Completion Date: November of 2012
Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation Program
- Funding Source: California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)
- Purpose: To improve air quality and beautify neighborhoods in close proximity to major freeways and/or interstates. The project will result in the installation of 400 street trees in the residential neighborhoods east of Santa Anita Avenue, north of the I-10 Freeway, west of Peck Road, and south of Ramona Boulevard
- Completion Date: June of 2015
