The City was recently awarded funding from the State of California's Strategic Growth Council (SGC) to establish an Urban Agriculture Inititative. The initiative will be a one-year pilot program and will result in the development of sustainable food production policies within the City. Key topics that will be addressed include food security, access to healthy food, and the facilitation of public and private gardens.
Timing: The SGC's governing board approved the funding for the Urban Agriculture Initiative in September of 2010, and staff from the City and the SGC are currently in the process of finalizing the grant contract agreement. Work on the initiative should begin sometime in the second quarter of 2011.
