Dispatch

The El Monte Police Department employs twelve full-time dispatchers, four shift supervisors, as well as the Communications Manager. The Communications Center is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to requests from citizens, and field personnel.

Functions

The primary functions of the police dispatcher are to receive emergency and other calls for service and dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment. Our dispatchers use computer-aided dispatch and other state-of-the-art communications equipment to record incidents and monitor activity of patrol cars, traffic units, special enforcement units, and other field personnel.

Training

Public safety dispatchers are highly dedicated people who complete a three-week intensive academy which is administered by the State of California. Supplemental training is on-going through a structured program implemented by the Department.
