Animal Control Responsibilities

Animal Control is responsible to:

  • Enforce leash law.
    Dogs in public spaces must be on a leash not exceeding 6 feet in length.
  • Pick up dead animals (Animal Control does not pick up dead pets).
    Report any dead animal at your residence or in the street.
  • Investigate barking complaints.
    Any reports of excessive dog barking will be investigated.
  • Take dog bite reports.
    All reports of dog bites will be taken and forwarded to the proper department.
  • Observe kennel laws.
    If you run a kennel from your residence, make sure to contact the Animal Control, Planning and Finance divisions for proper permits.
  • Enforce animal cruelty, neglect, license, and welfare laws.

Animal Control does not remove trapped wildlife or respond to calls for trapped wildlife. Wildlife includes, but is not limited to skunks, opossums, snakes, coyotes, etc.
